And I’m not enjoying it! Thomo has been home for about a week and a half now. We have been going and going and keeping really busy hardly ever home. Now…my wifely/motherly duties are catching up to me. Boo! I have laundry in the washer AND dryer along with 2 baskets that need to make it upstairs (darn you 2 story houses) and the sink is packed with dishes with clean ones in the dish washer waiting to be put away. I dont want to do anything! So Im not. Im sitting here posting for yesterday 🙂
Yesterday we headed down to Ala Moana mall and walked around randomly. We window shopped for a bit then stopped at Islands Burgers for lunch. Yummo Mangoritas! And those onion rings? Wow. We had planned to hit up Waikiki afterward but Layla passed out so we just continued around the island to Kailua for Jamba and Macys then back home. Then we flew kites.
After Layla was in bed we put in There Will Be Blood. Holy Moly thats a SLOOOOW movie. I can tell I like it but there was like ZERO talking in the first 15 minutes. Its slow. But good. At least most of it. I think we both passed out watching it with about an hour left.
Here is some from yesterday’s Kite Adventure 🙂
Thomas getting ready to hook the end of Layla’s smaller Diego kite onto the thing with the lots of string to make it go REALLY REALLY high.
A piggy bun. Just because.
And one from Saturday, I think. Steph took this of her when they were out flying kites when I was out takin pics of other people’s kids 🙂
I think Im spoiled by Hawaii
PS – I can totally drive and take pictures at the same time
I don’t bake. I’m not very good at it unless everything comes from a package and I just add water or milk. I’m an add 1 ingredient type of gal. Anyhow, every now and then I get the urge to channel Martha Stewart and whip up something fatty and good. Today was one of those days. I was flipping through The 4 Ingredient Cookbook and found some peanut butter cookies that I had everything to make. All FOUR ingredients. I know…watch out 😉 Before I go into details about how I screwed up something so easy I’m going to give you the original recipe straight out of the book.
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix everything together. Roll into 1 inch balls, drop on cookie sheet, press with a fork. Bake for 10 minutes at 350*.
Easy peasy right? Not for me. I really think I’m baking impaired. I thought too hard about this easy recipe and decided I NEEDED to make it healthy. Splenda instead of sugar. Sounds good, right? I thought so. And this is what happened…
I got out all of my stuff.
1/2 cup Splenda = 1 cup sugar…so that’s what I poured in the bowl.
Then came the vanilla…
And the egg.
Next I scooped in my cup of peanut butter.
Everything is looking good and I’m totally stoked that I’m going to make some yummy cookies…and then I stir it. I have a bowl of peanut butter and egg. With a couple grains of fake sugar. This is when I realize I prolly needed that FULL cup of sugar to hold it all together. Oops. So now I cant add more Splenda I think because it would be way too sweet and that stuff is expensive! Plan B was to throw it all away and pretend it didn’t happen. Then there was Plan C which was the winner. Say the cookies are healthy because you used Spelnda but don’t tell anyone about the extra REAL sugar that was dumped in the bowl until the mixture was more dough and less peanut butter mess.
So that’s what I did. And it was beautiful.
Just ignore the sugar canister behind the bowl. Because there’s no sugar in these cookies…just Splenda. And that makes them healthy 🙂
So I plopped gobs of the dough/stuff onto my cookie sheet and baked for 10 minutes. And then 3 more because they weren’t so much 1″ balls. They turned out REALLY well actually considering the mini panic attack in the middle. And they’re not this orange. My kitchen just hates me with color.
I have this small addiction to buying those darn Disney Cars diecast toy things. They’re all for Layla of course, right? Right. Thats what I tell people anyway. Actually I just NEED to buy any car I find that we do not already own. That’s why last weekend at Miss Steffy’s yard sale I about attacked poor little C when I saw the neighbor came over with a diecast RED the firetruck from her own sale. I HAD to have it…no ifs ands or buts. Ok I wouldnt have REALLY taken it unless I was sure they didnt care. And I tried to pay the kid $5 for it and he just took my money AND the truck. Either way, its here now and Im not really a better person because of it so why do I bother? Addiction. Darn it.
