I’ve had this little blog now for seven years. So much has happened in those 7 years and I’m thankful that I was able to document most of it here. It really is fun to go back and look at which is the main reason I keep it going (even though I don’t post often…)
Let’s take a look back to my very first post.
April 16, 2008:
Jill needs inspiration and I need yet another thing to remember to update regularly Im Megan. I live in Hawaii for the time being and am on my way to southern Alabama with my husband, Tom and our daughter, Layla. Or Laylers, Lola, Loola, Layla Loo, the list goes on. I like to call her Snot Face. Anyway…I have a camera and it has pretty much become a part of my body. So if you read this you get to see my random have no other place to post them pictures.
And my very first photo post: Easter Flowers. It all started with some morning glory seeds we planted. And guess what? I just planted some more. So here ya go, 7 years later, more ‘Easter flowers’.
And this one…I love it so much in black and white but I like the rainbow color of the bubbles too. So you get both.
I mentioned before that my lens was acting screwy. I tried to fix it. Not sure if I succeeded or not but I feel better about these than I did the last ones. I’m pretty lucky to have such awesome models to practice on. Oh, also, have you left me a comment? Are you getting my replies? Just realized that when I comment through the blog’s admin dashboard it’s not showing up through the Disqus comment system. Unless it is and I’m just missing it. Sometimes, I’m not so tech savvy.
Oh! And this. We checked the mail and I saw there was a big padded envelope. I had NO idea what I had ordered and forgot about. I feel like I do that often. Turns out, I didnt! It was the Eco Straws I won in a blog contest over at Life of a Traveling Navy Wife.
I just wanted to get on here and update y’all since I feel like I’ve dropped off the planet again. I made the mistake of starting Once Upon a Time on Netflix… 3 seasons at about 22 episodes each…. Life Suck. But I’m almost caught up and can return to real life soon.
Now, onto the real news of the week. I started the 21 Day Fix on Monday (I know, it’s only Wednesday…) and so far, it’s not too bad. I am in the last phase of the Live Fit Trainer so I will be sticking with that for workouts for the month. I have tried a couple of the 21DF workouts at home though and they are great. Reminds me a lot of the 30 Day Shred. Short time, big workout. Good stuff.
The real reason I picked this program though is to control my eating. First, let me say this is not a crazy restrictive diet. I’m not cutting out all carbs or fats, or sugars but instead and learning to control portions. I think I’m going to see results just by having to cut out all my mid day junk grazing. I don’t really eat bad meals it’s all the little things I snack on between those meals that is adding up.
Anyway, the whole thing is based on these containers. Each one stands for a different thing like protein, starches, fruits, veggies…and depending on your calorie intake goals you get so many of each container per day. A great way to spread it all out and have the visual is to use post it notes.
I keep this board in my kitchen so I can see what I’m eating and move things around as needed
I didn’t leave much for dinner this night (Monday) and actually switched the second snack and dinner places since it was a derby practice night. I normally don’t really eat on derby nights…just snack a bunch before going. This time I had a small dinner portion and then ate my snack afterward (no starch though because I ended up eating it earlier)
Day 2 went much better I think. I realized after day 1 where I really need to be eating what things. I had eaten way too much breakfast. Also, 2nd snack is always big because that’s my post workout shake which has fruit, spinach/kale, protein, and coconut milk (counts as a starch/yellow container). With dinner though I’m not sure if it really broke down to what I counted it as but I don’t think it was too far off. And I had a pumpkin oreo. Just 1…
Today is Day 3. So far I’m feeling better and less hangry about it all. I’m not so much hungry as I am just bored snacky…that’s what kills me. I’m trying to just grab my water bottle when I’m bored instead of the little bags of Chips Ahoy.
I did take before photos. We’ll see if there’s any change by Day 21.
Do you like green tea? I’m not a fan of actual hot green tea but I do love all the green tea flavored backed goodies and frappes. Do you know where the pretty green color and tea flavor comes from? I honestly had no idea until I got this bag of organic matcha green tea powder.
Honestly, my first impression was pretty iffy…when you first open
it you’re hit with a strong grassy smell. Once you use it though it’s nothing but good flavor.
My first test run with the matcha powder was a green tea frappuccino like Starbucks. I only tried one recipe and I wasn’t too thrilled with it. More milk next time maybe. This is what I did:
1/2 tsp green tea powder
1/8 cup hot water
1/2 cup milk
1 tbs sugar
1 cup ice
Mix tea powder and hot water until disolved. Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
I’ve also been adding this powder into all of my smoothies lately which definitely tastes a lot better!
