Today we were back in the gym to start Stage 2 of the New Rules of Lifting for Women. SO happy to be back in the gym! We ran outside last week during our ‘rest’ week from lifting. It was nice being outside again but totally threw off Timmy’s schedule. Anyway…I was nervous to try new things today. I like knowing and I like feeling comfy. The front squat push press scurred me but we did it and I like it.

Something that totally threw off all of my gym mojo this morning was realizing that if I’m holding two 20lb dumbbells it’s actually 40lbs. Yes? Am I right? Because holding them and lunging is using the whole body with those 40lbs. It’s not like Im doing bicep curls holding 20s which would be only actually using 20 on each arm. Am I right? It just hit me today. Which means all of my weights for lunges and step ups in stage 1 are off. Which makes me twitchy.

It also means we are twice as awesome as we thought we were, right? Stepping up with 40lbs instead of 20lbs? Someone please tell me that’s how it is because the light bulb went on today and now I’m hella confused.

So. Stage 2 workout A was a success. It sucked and my butt is sore already but yay! Workout B throws some interval cardio in the mix as well as some scary sounding exercises. Dumbbell prone cuban snatch…Bulgarian split squat. Eek!

PS- I also caved in and bought a Fit Book. It’s a tiny little book that you can track workouts, food, sleep, measurements, goals, etc for 12 weeks. Kassie used to rave about it and needed a new one so I went to Target with her and got my own. And it’s fun. I like it :)

I feel like I only blog on Sundays. I’m really not that crazy busy but at least I have something making me blog at least once a week.

Here is this weeks Scavenger Hunt Sunday themes: Macro, Found Texture, Home, Cover, Tree.

MACRO

Ok so it’s not totally macro but it’s the best I could do with what I have! Aloe

HOME

Tried to get creative with some sweet picture of the kids. But they are NOT sweet and would NOT let me get a serious picture. So here is “home” to me. Drinking my gallon of coffee while the kids tear the place apart from across the counter :)

COVER

I made a camera strap cover. First time ever. I also learned something (that I already knew) about my sewing. Things would turn out a heck of a lot better if I would read instructions, measure, iron, and pin. I’m more of an eyeball it and hope it turns out kinda girl. Thankfully I made it longer than needed because I had to cut hems off a few times because I didn’t think before sewing and messed up. A lot. Anywho, I need to take it in a bit but I was lazy and done so I just pinned the ends lol I’ll go back and fix it some day…maybe.

TREE

There was no question as to what I would use for me tree picture. Best. Tree. EVER. Taking the picture was hard though. One day before I move I’m going to get back to Screamers and have Carmelo stick another bird on there.

Tree

That’s it! Next week is Food, Purple, In Disguise, Shapes, and Photographer’s Choice.

Spider hands are back! Late, but we did them. For the last few years I’ve done the handprint spiders with Layla. I got the stuff out to make them with friends yesterday then completely spaced out and didn’t do it. I think this was Timmy’s first time…I found the footprint ghosts from last year but no spider. Just Layla’s. Anywho, Timmy with paint on his hands = yikes! First he freaked and wanted it OFF and tried to wipe it on anything he could and then he just stuck his hand in his mouth.

Anyway…Get your paint, paper, googly eyes, and glue. And lots of baby wipes.

27Oct11 001

Next, get the big kid to be your demo because once you paint the baby’s hands there is no taking pictures. Paint everything but the thumb, press, flip, repeat.

27Oct11 002

Once that’s dry glue the eyes on

27Oct11 003

Then paint on a smile…and a bow if you think they need to be different.

27Oct11 004

Names and year and you’re done! Now to make ghost feet. They may turn into Thanksgiving ghost feet if I don’t get on it soon…

Look at this. Two weeks in a row!   This weeks themes were:

Words, Under, Orange, Fly, and Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

So I actually tried to take my pictures during the week instead of all today like I did last week. And I did mostly. I needed “Fly”. I planned some clever helicopter picture and it never happened. While I was wondering what to do I changed my mind on a few other pictures too :P

Words.

This one was new. I had a Cheeburger Cheeburger glass from lunch on Wednesday but wasn’t totally happy with it. While reshooting Orange I turned my head and saw this. A million years ago in Hawaii Thomas worked a lot of night shifts so we were on different schedules. One morning when I got up (and Im guessing he was asleep) I came downstairs to this stuck to the computer desk. Fast forward to a few months ago when I finally tossed the desk…I had to carefully rip this off to keep it :)

Under.

This picture I too randomly and needed a reason to post. Under worked. Timmy is “under water”. One of his favorite things is to play peek a boo through the fish tank.

Orange.

It’s fall and my house is up to it’s pretend ears in orange things. I didn’t want to do a pumpkin or leaves or anything Halloweeny. Then I saw this flower. A left over from the kids Alice in Wonderland birthday party in February. They were too cute to take down :)

Fly.

This was the one I had trouble with before I realized I wear my favorite pair of wings on me almost every day. They’re the wings T gave me when he graduated flight school. I’m so proud of him :)

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

Ok, for the last week I have been singing this song from Monty Python. It’s the ONLY thing I can think of when I hear that. ONLY thing.

But here is my picture :P

When Thomas was here on leave he had Kassie and I lifting weights in the gym. We were just going for 30ish minutes of cardio and the 15 minute ab class. I thought we were special because we went to the gym. Then Thomo came and made me lift. And now I’m obsessed. It was easy having him here telling me what to do and how many. I need structure and a schedule (shocking right?) and him being my guide was perfect. Then he was leaving. I ordered The New Rules of Lifting for Women from Amazon.

It’s a great book. All about why women don’t need to be afraid of weights and how the body works with lifting/cardio. Tons of great info. There is also a whole nutrition section that is all about NOT starving yourself. My kind of diet! It comes with recipes but isn’t a full on meal plan. More of a guide.

The workout section is broken into 7 stages with the 1st stage being the longest. Stage 1 has no cardio in the workouts but you can do some on your off days…not that you wont be grunty and sweaty already though.

Stage 2 brings in interval training. Another thing the book likes. No long runs.

So, now that I’ve finished stage 1 I’m going to post my stats. Remember, Workout 1 was 2 sets of 15, and the last was 3 sets of 8.

Workout A:

Squats: Start – 75lb,   End – 100lb,   Final – 40 squats at 75lb
Push Ups: Start – HARD to finish 15 on bench (30* incline?),   End – 3×8 on floor,   Final – 24 on bench
Seated Row: Start – 60lbs,   End – 90lbs,   Final – 30 at 60lbs
Step Ups on 5 risers: Start – 10lb,   End – 20lb,   Final – 30 at 10lb each leg.

Workout B:

Deadlift: Start – 35lb on small bar,   End – 60lb on small bar,   Final – 40 at 35lbs
Shoulder Press: Start – 10lb,   End – 20lb,   Final – 30 at 10lbs
Wide lat Pull Down: Start – 60lbs,   End – 90lb (1 set @ 100lb!),    Final – 60 at 60lbs
Lunge: Start 10lbs,    End- 20lbs,   Final 30 at 10lbs each leg

Looking at that feels good. Some of them (step ups and lunges) I’m sure I could have used a heavier weight toward the end but I hate them and didn’t want to. The push ups AMAZED me! During the 2 sets of 15 I was lucky to get my 15 out. Sometimes I only did 14 and once only 13. Now I can do 24 all at once on the bench. Dude! The pull down was exciting too. When we started the 60lb wasn’t TOO terrible but today it was like nothing. Love it!

I do feel stonger since starting this. I took before and after Stage 1 measurements. Everything is about the same except chest is up an inch and waist is down .25in. Good for me! Now the fun part is I’ve gained weight. Doesn’t sound fun and at first I flipped out a bit. From 158 to around 161-163…I wanted to cry until I realized my measurements are the same…which means I’m solid lol! Yay muscles!

Since 2008 we’ve been going to Aplin Farms pumpkin patch with the Wilkins family. (Last year was an exception…we both went, just not with each other :P )

Anyway, Melissa made a big ol emotional deal about it being our LAST YEAR GOING TOGETHER. So I figured I would too.

We had to get a picture of the girls with ‘the door’. What turned out to be a quick stand there and be happy while a take a picture shot in 2008 turned into a place where we got pictures every time if we could.

Our sweet girls in 2008.

It looks like a school class picture. Everyone standing straight, arms glued to their sides. Whatever.

I also made it a point to get in on a picture with my kids. Something I dont do enough.

And Melissa and I had to have a door shot too ;)

Anywho, on another note. Timmy walked by himself this year. Last year his was strapped to me. The year before he was in my belly. This year he’s huge and semi listened enough to stay kind of near us.

Chickens.

15Oct11 006

Ooh Since Timmy was walking he was also determined to go where HE wanted to go. Like onto this tractor.
15Oct11 015

Pigs. He wasn’t sure about touching them.

Layla. So big

Timmy too.

Layla found hers! The fattest one there.

And then she found a smaller one for Timmy with 5 ft of hairy stem

15Oct11 040

Timmy figured out how to open the little remote cubby on the couch finally. He found the little video camera and when he finally brought it to me there were 52 videos that were between 1-12 seconds in length. Most were 1 second. So he just sat there hitting record, stop, record, stop, record, stop.  Anyway. I was looking through the videos and found a few I took and never loaded. So here they are :)

It’s all fun and games until you try to pick up your brother and he rams his head into your face

Calling Revo

And again but this time with a cape

This one is kinda gross…but he was eating and I just picked up the camera and he kept saying CHEEEEESE through his pumpkin/nutella bread.

Finally I’m able to do this. I’ve been stalking a couple of other blogs that have posted for Scavenger Hunt Sunday and have been meaning to try it out for a couple weeks now. Of course I suck and put it off until the last minute (we have all week to get the pictures) and a few were taken this morning ;)

I had a great idea for red leaves and this is the ONE I found. Alabama needs to get the ball rolling on Fall already.

Faces in strange places:

This one was a stretch for me. Again, lots of ideas and none were working out and I kept looking back to this. It’s a Halloween card from my bestie that sits on top of the coffee pot. I like being greeted the happy googly eye face every morning.

Stars:

I tried to be creative with Timmy’s star blocks and it wasn’t happening. This is turning into a theme…my ideas dont work and I need to just go with what I have! My favorite stars ever on my wrist

First, what did I ever do without the internets?? I don’t remember. But then again, I was like 12. That’s crazy to me because Layla is 6 and she can find her way around her websites like nobody’s business. Anyway, not my point today…

I was skimming through Facebook like I always do and saw one page I’ve ‘liked’ had posted a pumpkin smoothie recipe. They had me at pumpkin. I added it to my favorites and decided I would make it some day.

Clean Eating Online – Pumpkin Smoothie

Today was the day. I was still riding my crock pot over night healthy oatmeal high from this morning so after the gym I went for it.

But of course I suck and can’t follow instructions so I did half milk half almond milk. The good Silk stuff too..not the sugar free stuff I got and used in the oatmeal. I also used agave nectar instead of honey because I had it and I like to save the honey for Layla’s lunches because she hearts PB&H sammies.

IMG04159-20111014-1023.jpg

Picture taken after I decided the recipe was post worthy. Notice the open pumpkin can and empty spice bottle.

Cell phone pic because I’m lazy and dont want to load the real deal.

I did:

1/2 c milk
1/2 c almond milk
1/2 c pumpkin
1tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1ish tsp agave nectar
1 c ice

Bleeeeend!

SO freakin good. I tried out a pumpkin protein shake recipe last fall and it was dis-gus-ting. I didn’t think I’d ever try it again but I’m glad I did. This was yummy and made me a little less jealous of not having a Jamba near by when the Hawaii Jamba sends me pumpkin smoothie emails.
